Another milestone for the BUWOG project Rivus: multifunctional building with school and local supplier

  • Topping out for groundbreaking, innovative multiple-use property
  • Neighbourhood development with around 800 apartments and extensive infrastructure
  • Completion of the overall project by March 2022

In BUWOG's major RIVUS residential park project with around 800 units and several infrastructural facilities in Vienna-Atzgersdorf, another important milestone has been reached with the topping out of a central section of the complex: as part of an innovative concept for use, a multifunctional building combining a retail facility and a school is being built. A shopping area of around 3,240 sqm, which will house an Interspar supermarket, will be constructed on the ground floor. On the supermarket's rooftop, an elementary school with 17 classrooms will be built on two floors, then on its rooftop a sports ground belonging to the school.

Together with Deputy District Manager Harald Gruber, BUWOG Managing Director of Development Andreas Holler thanked the executing companies and architects Lorenz Ateliers ZT Gmbh (planning application and tendering plan) as well as BEHF Architects (execution plan) for the outstanding work. "I am proud that we have been able to build an extraordinary residential facility together here in Liesing. In the last few months, all of the project partners have done excellent work in order to complete the shell on schedule. I am looking forward to further successful cooperation until conclusion of this project".

"In a major project such as this, it is particularly important to us to upgrade the location by developing accompanying infrastructure measures", Holler says. "This has been very well received by those seeking housing and these experiences will also be incorporated into the planning for major projects of the future". "The school location is especially important to us, and I am delighted that we will soon be able to hand over a state-of-the-art primary school from which around 425 children and their families will benefit".

High quality of life for families on the river Liesing

The most important target group of the RIVUS residential park on the former Unilever grounds on Breitenfurter Straße are young families. Around 800 units are being built here, 500 of which plus a kindergarten have already been completed; the primary school and the supermarket will follow in spring 2020 and the remaining apartments in spring 2022. A few apartments are still available in the Rivus I and Rivus II projects: the units are between 54 sqm and 76 sqm in size and each of them have open spaces such as balconies, terraces or private gardens. The location in the immediate vicinity of the river Liesing with cycle paths and footpaths ensures a particularly high quality of life and recreational value for the project. The city centre can be reached by public transport in about 30 minutes and large recreational areas such as the Lainzer Tiergarten and Perchtoldsdorfer Heide can also be quickly accessed.
