BUWOG Christmas donation: support for and solidarity with Wiener Tafel

Christmas is nearly upon us, and after another year marked by the coronavirus crisis, the season calls for helping people in need. The economic impact of the pandemic has worsened the hardship for many and drastically increased the number of people affected by poverty. BUWOG is aware of its social responsibility and has shown solidarity with its Christmas donation of EUR 20,000 to Wiener Tafel.

Social action and solidarity are even more important in our society in times of crisis. BUWOG will therefore continue its strong support for Wiener Tafel in 2021 by providing food for the poverty-stricken. “As the most active private property developer in Austria, assuming social responsibility is part of who we are. In what is already the second year of the pandemic, we are called upon even more to provide support to those affected by poverty and exclusion,” says Kevin Töpfer, managing director of BUWOG Group GmbH.

Food supplies for those in need

“Give it away, don’t throw it away”: BUWOG is very happy to support this idea again for Christmas 2021 and to provide assistance to poverty-stricken people as well as the environment.

Together with more than 280 volunteers, since 1999 Wiener Tafel, a social and environmental organisation financed by donations, has been rescuing food still fit for consumption from rubbish and therefore providing food for around 19,000 people in poverty. To be able to provide even more meals for poverty-stricken people in the future, following extensive refurbishment, an initial large (refrigerated) warehouse is to be put into operation. BUWOG’s donation will benefit this next stage of expansion, i.e. the construction of new (refrigerated) warehouses at the Vienna wholesale market.

“The coronavirus crisis has exacerbated the situation of poverty-stricken people. At the same time, many new groups of individuals are also facing poverty. Due to the effects of Covid-19, this has also increased the need for food relief among the population. Our aim is to provide sufficient support to everyone who relies on our help, particularly in these challenging times, and we are therefore extremely grateful for BUWOG's donation, which will help expand our storage capacities,” says Alexandra Gruber, managing director of Wiener Tafel.
