Sustainability awarded: MARINA TOWER receives klimaaktiv GOLD certificate

MARINA TOWER is currently being built at Wehlistraße 291 in the second district of Vienna. Upon its completion, which is planned for early 2022, BUWOG and IES Immobilien's joint project will encompass approximately 500 privately financed condominiums and will shape the future skyline of Vienna with a height of about 138 metres and 40 upper floors. It is trendsetting in matters of sustainability as well. Thus recently MARINA TOWER was awarded the klimaaktiv GOLD certificate.

Sustainability of the highest standard

Sustainable measures have been considered or already implemented from the planning stage through construction to subsequent management. The result of BUWOG and IES Immobilien's commitment to sustainability are impressive: in October 2019 MARINA TOWER received the sustainability certificate in gold from the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNI). This was followed in spring 2020 by being awarded the klimaaktiv GOLD certificate at the highest level of evaluation: out of a possible 1,000 points, MARINA TOWER took 915, which confirms the project's significant level of sustainable quality. High scores were achieved, particularly in the areas of location, energy and supply, but also for building materials and construction. They attest on the one hand to the considerable level of energy efficiency for future residents and on the other to the high quality of the building materials and building products used. Since the start of construction, the development of MARINA TOWER has also been supported by comprehensive product and chemical management, which also fulfils the catalogue of criteria for the two certification systems (ÖGNI and klimaaktiv) concerning low-emission and low-toxicity building materials.

Andreas Holler, managing director of MARINA TOWER Holding GmbH: "With the klimaaktiv certification, MARINA TOWER has received its second sustainability award during the construction phase. This makes us very proud and proves we are on the right track with our work to make residential construction in Vienna fit for the future".

MARINA TOWER living environment

Located directly on the Danube, MARINA TOWER plans to use geothermal energy for heating, cooling as well as for generating electricity. Residents will also benefit from a sustainable mobility concept. Planned by architectural firm Zechner & Zechner, the project is also impressive with its modern and innovative façade design: multi-floor insets are alternately positioned on the south and north façades, allowing natural lighting of the interior staircase. The lowest level is, moreover, designed as a raised-bed garden for building greening over approximately two floors.

The MARINA Deck adjoining MARINA TOWER is added value for all residents of MARINA TOWER as well as residents of Vienna: as an extension over the Handelskai, it forms a direct link with and access to the right bank of the Danube. The result is spacious, open public areas and an important contribution to urban development.

Markus Teufl, also managing director of MARINA TOWER Holding GmbH, adds: "MARINA TOWER not only offers a wide range of services for future residents. With the MARINA Deck, we are going the extra mile that we believe is absolutely necessary and from which all of Vienna will benefit". The extension work over the Handelskai is already finished, and the MARINA Deck is scheduled for completion in 2021.

The construction work is currently continuing, as planned. At present, the seventh floor of MARINA TOWER is under construction, with overall completion scheduled for early 2022.
