Topping out for the new BUWOG headquarters

  • Modern and perfectly accessible customer and service centre in the heart of the city
  • Around 280 employees will relocate to Rathausstraße 1 in spring 2020
  • New location as a strong commitment to Austria as a location

The construction of BUWOG's future headquarters has reached an important milestone: on Tuesday, 25 June 2019, the topping out was celebrated for the property on Rathausstraße, which was planned by ARGE Schuberth Schuberth / Stadler Prenn / Ostertag and executed by Atelier Heiss at the border between the 8th and 1st districts of Vienna. The schedule was therefore maintained, and the relocation of around 280 employees from BUWOG's current headquarters on Hietzinger Kai will take place according to plan in spring 2020.

The BUWOG management team with Daniel Riedl, member of the executive board of Vonovia SE who is responsible for the all of BUWOG operations in Austria as well as for BUWOG development in Germany, and Andreas Holler, managing director of development at BUWOG in Austria, welcomed a large number of prominent guests in addition to the employees of the construction companies to the topping out. The district manager of the first district, Markus Figl, the district manager of Josefstadt, Veronika Mickel-Göttfert, and district representative Silvie Walch were among those who extended their congratulations. Numerous employees of BUWOG also took the opportunity to get an initial impression of their future place of work.

The property has approximately 10,100 sqm of total floor area and will accommodate state-of-the-art office space as well as a large customer and service centre. A Billa supermarket on the ground floor will significantly improve the local supply in the vicinity of Rathausstraße 1, and because part of the building's underground car park with approximately 140 spaces will also be leased, the strained parking situation in Josefstadt can also be alleviated. In addition, spacious and attractive open areas that are accessible to the public will be developed in front of the property.

"I would like to thank all those who are making smooth progress in carrying out this large-scale project in such a prominent location, particularly our general contractor STRABAG AG and the numerous workers on the construction site", Riedl says. "I would also like to call attention to the outstanding and constructive cooperation with district management, who gave us a very warm welcome on behalf of the 1st and 8th districts".

Daniel Riedl also stressed the importance of the new headquarters for BUWOG's further development. "We will soon be moving from the outskirts of the city into the heart of Vienna, and the new location is a perfect reflection of BUWOG's image as a modern, customer-oriented and responsible company", Riedl explains. "This will not only provide our employees with a modern workplace in one of the city's most central locations, but will also make BUWOG even more visible and accessible to its existing and future customers".

The construction of the new headquarters is also a clear commitment to Austria as a location and a strong signal for the long-term prospects for growth that BUWOG sees in Vienna, even since the takeover by German group Vonovia: "We will build even more in the future, we will also acquire more apartments for our existing portfolio than we did before, and we will continue to expand our market position as a property developer and long-term investor", Riedl says.
